In 2001, the United Nations declared September 21 to be the International Day of Peace. On that day every year, in hundreds of conflicts around the world, ceasefires allow Red Cross and Red Crescent doctors are able to vaccinate thousands of children around the world. Peace events, benefit concerts, and other celebrations help focus the world's attention on the world's too numerous war zones and conflict areas.
International Aiki Peace Week is our humble attempt within the Aikido Community to participate in the global celebration of peace, and to offer OSensei's remarkable vision to the wider world. We chose to create a week of peace-focused teaching rather than just a day because many dojos do not have classes every day, and thus might not be able to put on an event on September 21st.
